Because of the amount of work
involved, I am only able to take on one or two selected painting or
sculptural commissions each year.
I am interested in producing only major pieces as commissioned artworks.
Commission contracts are usually restricted to existing collectors of my
work who are willing to accept a few provisions that I have found make the
process easier and more fulfilling for all involved.
Commissioned artworks may ultimately
be the most important longitudinal body of work that I create, so I approach
each commission with that in mind, dedicating myself to the creation of
something very special that reflects my artistic explorations during that
period. By 'major pieces' I am referring to very significant artworks:
paintings of 50 square feet and larger, and sculptural
pieces that stand 6 feet in height, or larger, not including the base.
The client will be provided with a
firm quote for the cost of the commission. There is a nonrefundable 50% down
payment due upon signing the commission contract. This covers all the
front-end work, including creative time, sketches, photographs of similar
works, determination of color schemes, shape and format, plus the time and
labor required to bring the artwork to completion.
Once the artwork is complete, clients
will be shown photographs of the work, and allowed to suggest certain minor
changes.
These changes, if considered appropriate, will be made and then documented via a
second series of photographs
of the work. Once the artwork has been accepted as completed, the balance of
the commission contract amount is due. On reception of the fee balance, my
studio will ship the artwork, crated and fully insured.
While it only very rarely happens,
after delivery of the completed work, clients may wish to suggest further
slight changes. If I agree that the suggested changes are appropriate and
are consistent with the focus and flow of the existing artwork, the changes
will be completed in my studio. Clients are responsible for round-trip
shipping fees of the artwork.
